Ana de Armas is a Cuban-Spanish actor who was born in Havana in 1988. She had a passion for performing since she was young, and she attended the National Theater School of Cuba when she was 12 years old. She made her film debut in “Una rosa de Francia” (2006) after four years of training, and then appeared in a few more Cuban films. She moved to Spain with the help of her grandparents, who gave her Spanish citizenship, and avoided the difficult process of getting an exit visa from Cuba. In Spain, she became a popular actor on TV shows like “El internado” (2007-2010) and “Hispania, la leyenda” (2010-12), and in movies like the horror-comedy “Faraday” (2013). She then decided to pursue a career in Hollywood, where she had to start from scratch. She soon got a chance to work with Keanu Reeves in the Eli Roth thriller “Knock Knock” (2015), and then with Robert De Niro in the boxing drama “Hands of Stone.” She also starred in Todd Phillips’ dark comedy “War Dogs” (2016) and the action thriller “Overdrive” (2017), before landing a major role in Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel “Blade Runner 2049” (2017). She continued to work in high-profile films such as the mystery comedy “Knives Out” (2019), the James Bond film “No Time to Die” (2021) and most recently, the spy thriller “The Gray Man” (2022) with Ryan Gosling and action comedy “Ghosted” (2023) with Chris Evans.
